Since its inception in 1962, the South Plainfield High School Wrestling Team has compiled a total record of 700 wins, 166 losses, and 10 ties.

 

This includes:

- 27 Division Championships

- 23 Conference Championships

- 34 District Titles (32 in a row, state record)

- 13 State Section Championships

- 9 State Group Championship.

- 3 number one rankings in the state (2010, 2012. 2013)

 

The South Plainfield Wrestling Program has been under the leadership of five head coaches:

 

- Al Ranger (166-82-6)

- Tom Baker (7-7)

- Mike Buggey (114-22-1)

- Bill Pavlak (111-14-3)

- Kevin McCann (302-41)

 

Of these coaches, two received the prestigious honor of State Coach of the Year: Bill Pavlak in 2000 and Kevin McCann in both 2005 and 2010.

 

In 1986, with the help of coaches Mike Buggey, Bill Pavlak, and Eugene Clapsis, the program turned around and became a dominant force inMiddlesex Country. In 1997, under Head Coach Bill Pavlak, South Plainfield won their first Section Championship and in 2000 their first State Group Title.This success was continued under the leadership and talent of Head Coach Kevin McCann as the team captured six Group Titles in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2012 and 2013. In 2010, 2012 and 2013 the program reached the pinnacle of the sport, finishing as the #1 team in the state of New Jersey.

 

The wrestlers throughout the programs history have always prided themselves on being dedicated to the sport and to the community of South Plainfield. The program looks forward to continuing a tradition of success with the continued contributions of devoted parents, fans, wrestlers, and coaches.
